Three methods of retracting the turning tool of CNC lathe

In the process of CNC machine tool processing, in order to improve the processing efficiency, the tool moves from the starting point or tool change point to the position close to the workpiece and returns to the starting point or tool change point after processing in G00 (rapid point positioning) mode. The principle of considering the tool retraction route is: first, to ensure safety, that is, not to collide with the workpiece during the tool retraction process; second, to consider the shortest tool retraction route, shorten the empty stroke, and improve production efficiency.

According to the different parts of the part processed by the tool, the determination of the tool retraction route is also different. CNC lathes commonly use the following three retraction routes:

(1) Oblique retraction route

The oblique retraction route has the shortest stroke and is suitable for offset retraction for machining outer circular surfaces.

Oblique retraction route

(2) Radial and axial retraction routes

The radial and axial retraction route means that the tool first retracts vertically along the radial direction, and then retracts axially when it reaches the specified position. The grooving process shown in the Figure 2 uses this type of retraction route.

(3) Axial and radial retraction routes

The sequence of axial and radial retraction routes is just opposite to that of radial and axial retraction routes. The boring process shown in Figure 3 adopts this kind of retraction route.
