What is the difference between Swiss type and Fixed type CNC lathe?
What is Swiss CNC Machining?
A Swiss CNC machine, also known as a Swiss type lathe or a Swiss automatic lathe, is a sophisticated precision manufacturing machine capable of quickly and correctly producing exceedingly small parts. Belong to the precision processing equipment, also has a turning, milling, drilling, tapping, boring, carving, etc.
Swiss type CNC lathe’s feeds bar stock through a guide bushing that securely supports the material as it feeds into the machine's tooling area. Furthermore, only the machined portion of the bar stock enters the tooling region, ensuring that the material is kept snugly in place for greater stability and precision.
What is Fixed head CNC lathe?
The workpiece is clamped on the spindle, and the spindle rotates in a fixed location on the fixed head CNC lathe. The tool, sometimes known as a Turret, can machine a fixed workpiece using a continuous moving axis. It is appropriate for heavy-duty, large-diameter workpieces, as the runout on large-diameter and long bars will be significant.
Difference between Swiss type and fixed type CNC lathes
Machining process
1. The machining process of Swiss type: The processing material is clamped by simple clamping, and the material moves forward while the tool remains stationary, and the part is treated by the tool's linear motion or swinging motion. Intuitively, the machining process spindle to Z axis for the movement of the direction, the tool to X axis for the movement of the direction.
2. The machining process of fixed head type: It entails gripping the workpiece using simple clamping and processing it by moving the turning tool back and forth and left and right. The machining process is the movement of the tool in the X and Z axis.
Workpiece size
The Swiss lathe processes small diameter products, as small as 1MM in diameter and as large as 38MM in diameter, generally speaking, the products will not exceed 38MM in diameter, mainly small diameter products, theoretically speaking, the Swiss lathe can process infinite length products and infinite feeding, but it is only a theoretical value because the peripheral equipment does not allow it, and the turret lathe cannot be compared to the Swiss lathe in terms of long slender axes.
The diameter processed by the fixed head type lathe can include the Swiss lathe and a portion of the turret lathe, and the speed of tool changing and processing is approved by the electronic and communication industries; however, the design concept of many turret lathe manufacturers is to consider the large through-hole, large diameter, and processing length, and it can do continuous feeding processing and single-piece clamping processing, which cannot be met by the Swiss lathe.
All our CNC lathe machines are fixed head type machines that can process workpieces with a minimum outside diameter of 7mm or more and a maximum outside diameter of 50mm, and the maximum turning processing length is 230mm depending on the material.
